The cost of following Christ

MATTHEW 5:37

“All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one”

Read: Matthew 5:33-37

            At the very moment you heard that Jesus is calling you to follow, what will be your answer? Surely, you will say “Yes”, here is a very important question; How serious and sure you are with that answer “Yes”? We need to completely understand the Cause and Cost of following Christ. When we say yes to Christ, we must say no to sin. Following Christ requires a full devotion to purity and holiness. We cannot partially serve God with our other feet buried to sin and worldliness.

Saying yes to Jesus is saying yes to complete separation and consecration. We have to bear His marks and live like how He lived. 1 John 2:6 says “Whoever claims to live in Him (Jesus) must walk as Jesus did” Jesus walked in purity and holiness, and we are compelled to do the same. The Lord said; “Be holy, because I am holy” the power to become holy is in Christ alone, but we have the choice to be.

Reflection:

              Can you hear His call? Remember, God called us to be a difference. May we truly bear the marks of a true Christian. Always yes to Jesus and no to sin.

Prayer:

              Father, as I say Yes; please help me to have a whole heart ready to be fully surrendered to the ways of heaven. And that is purity and holiness. Help me to live this life bearing the true marks of Christianity that I may bring glory to Your Name.
