Bearing the light of Christ

John 1:4-5

“In him (Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

John 1:8

“He (John the Baptist) himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.”

Read: John 1:1-18

Jesus Himself was the life that became the light of men. Those who have received Him have also received life and light that even the darkness is not able to overcome. In John 1:8, the writer is speaking about John the Baptist who gone before Jesus. He is a chosen servant of God for such a purpose. John himself is not the light, but he was chosen to bear witness about the true light; Jesus Christ

The world today is getting worst and darker. It is in great need of life and light. Jesus is the only source of true life and light. As a follower of Christ our life must be an example of His life and light. We must bear the true marks of Jesus so that the people living in darkness will see life and light through us. We are compelled to do it, because we have been united in Christ.

Reflection:

Think about how dark this world is. Examine your life, are you truly bearing the life and light of Jesus?

Prayer:

Oh Lord, help me to live this life in the light of You. So that the world will see Your grace and love through me.
