DepEd: 8.8 million parents prefer modular learning
According to the Learner Enrollment and Survey Forms (LESFs) of the Department of Education (DepEd), 8.8 million parents said they preferred modular learning or the combination of printed and digital modules over face-to-face learning for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.
3.9 million parents on the other hand said they preferred blended or online learning, while 1.4 million parents said they preferred education over television and 900,000 over radio.
The LESFs were distributed during the enrollment period which lasted from June to July 15, which DepEd described as an “expanded version” of its regular enrollment form. It was structured to not only get the details of learners to be registered but also for the education bureau to get information on households and determine parents’ readiness for distance learning.
“These data and information were used by every region, school division, and school in designing their respective learning continuity plan (LCP), particularly in making decisions on what learning modalities will be implemented,” said DepEd.
President Rodrigo Duterte has prohibited in-person classes until January 2021. On July 22, he approved DepEd’s proposal to do limited face-to-face classes starting in January in areas that are under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) or have low cases of coronavirus disease or COVID-19.
Over 22 million students were confirmed to have enrolled nationwide in private and public schools.
Classes were earlier disrupted in March as community quarantines were implemented all over the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A blended learning approach will be applied as the school year 2020-2021 formally opens on August 24.
