The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) does not agree with proposals for an academic freeze, or the cancellation or suspension of classes.

The university in a Facebook post expressed the united stand of its student and college councils rejecting the call for an academic freeze.

“PLM says no to academic freeze!” read the post. “This is to correct any wrong notions that PLM even considered stopping the thousands of students who have enrolled from starting the academic year on October 5, as suggested by a small group of students.”

The post also noted that PLM’s faculty and staff have been “working feverishly” to build the school’s digital platform. Should any students not have access to gadgets or the Internet, the university will provide modular materials. It will also consider the applications of learners who wish to take a leave of absence from their studies.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) urged the proponents of academic freeze to submit a formal petition. Such a proposal must involve a study to defend its recommendation. The Department of Education (DepEd) has also referred to such a move as a “shortsighted” position.
